THE HEART
MAZEHUAL and MESTIZO Artisanal Workshop are made up of 60 members: 35 women and 25 men. The age range goes from 18 years to over 50 years of age.
DEMOGRAPHY
We promote inclusion and opportunities regardless of gender, age, sexual preference, political or religious beliefs. We encourage people with special needs to join our team, as we believe that this is not an impediment to professional development and generating an income. The role of each member is essential to the functioning of the organization; we value the skills of each and every one of those involved.
ROOTS AND ORIGIN
Our team is mostly made up of people of indigenous origin. 85% of the members have a native surname from our region, specifically Mayan.
GENDER EQUITY
We believe that both men and women are ideal for working as artisans and for achieving success in the different specialties of the production area. Employment and growth opportunities within the organization are fair and equal for all our employees.
SCHOOLING
For us, the professional and personal growth of our team is essential. We are committed to developing a support plan that offers development opportunities in both aspects for our collaborators. Currently the percentages are: basic education 50%, high school 30% and bachelor's degree 20% approximately.
MARITAL STATUS
We develop in a family atmosphere where everyone can count on each other. We support parents by providing them with school supplies for education, additional bonuses, ongoing training and medium support. Currently the percentages are: married 35%, single 60% and widowed 5%.
TRADITION
We pay tribute to and deeply respect the ancestral traditions and customs of our team. It is extremely important for us to make everyone feel included and to live together with our collaborators, which is why we celebrate together the most important dates in Mayan and Mexican culture.
Children's Day (April 30): We celebrate the children of our employees by giving them gifts and sweets, a gesture of appreciation from the organization.
Hanal Pixán (November 2): is the Mayan celebration of the dead; we set up an altar in which we include all the relatives who died during the year to pay their respects. We use elements with symbolic value such as copal. The story goes that the smoke from it will help purify the soul, and candles that will help the deceased find the light on the path to limbo.
Among other celebrations such as the Patriotic Month, Women's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day and Artisan's Day on March 19.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
At MAZEHUAL and MESTIZO Artisanal Workshop, we have developed a trust fund for artisans, in which a percentage of our total sales are allocated to improving their quality of life, including housing, education, food, and the sustainable use of our resources. As an example of this commitment, each year we set up small workshops in Mayan communities around Yucatan to promote the preservation of the ancestral techniques of our culture and to promote the empowerment of indigenous women by giving them skills to earn additional income while respecting their way of life and knowledge.
